Prova sperimentale — Una scatola con dadi (120 punti)
Olimpiadi di Fisica 2000 — Gara Nazionale, Senigallia (AN), 13-14 Aprile 2000.
Introduzione
-
il numero complessivo di dadi contenuti nella scatola;
-
le posizioni dei due gruppi di dadi;
-
il centro di massa dell’intero sistema costituito dalla scatola e dai due gruppi di dadi;
-
Note

The cookie box you find on your table is numbered and sealed. You should not attempt to open it at all. It contains an equal number of balls, all of them equal to each other, divided into two equal groups and fixed inside the box along its cylindrical wall, at the same distance from the lid and bottom. Knowing that the empty box has a mass of while each die has a mass of (both of these values have an uncertainty of ), determine:
-
the total number of dice contained in the box;
-
the positions of the two groups of dice;
-
the centre of mass of the whole system consisting of the box and the two sets of dice;
-
the center of mass of the two groups of dice.
Notes
A. The spirit in which this test is proposed is as follows. Often, it is not necessary to have special measuring instruments at your disposal to obtain meaningful information. You can exploit the objects you happen to have at your disposal, using a variety of tricks and imagination. In this spirit, to answer questions you should only use items delivered to you, although many of them appear to be “office” rather than “laboratory” items. For example, biadhesive tape can be used to attach a pencil to a table or a box, which in turn can be used as a support for another object.
B. You must first cover the lid and bottom of the box with two discs of paper, either with adhesive or biadhesive tape. On these discs you can more easily perform your graphic constructions.
C. The numbering of the questions is indicative only, in that depending on the route taken in the resolution, it may be appropriate to answer, for example, the question 4. before 1.
D. The number of methods used to answer individual questions (if they differ significantly) will also be positively assessed.
E. The graphic constructions on paper discs can provide useful elements to evaluate your work, so at the end of the test you must also deliver those discs, writing your name above. Also remove all the adhesive and biadhesive tape attached to the box, as this should be used for the second round.
